The Dairy Queen employee who made the viral marijuana cake instead of a ‘Moana’ one was fired

A Georgia Dairy Queen employee accidentally made a customer a marijuana cake rather than a Moana (as in the Disney movie) cake, after mishearing the order. She was fired.

Kensli Davis told the story via Facebook, where it went viral on July 2. She included a photo of the highly decorated birthday cake, which included a toked out My Little Pony on it.

“My mama called and ordered me a cake telling them how much I loved Moana. (Because really I do) Well needless to say these people thought she said marijuana,” Davis wrote.

Even though Davis wanted a Moana-themed birthday cake, she took the incident in stride. “That ice cream cake was still good though,” she wrote, along with several crying laughing emojis.

The Dairy Queen in question apparently didn’t find it as funny as Davis did, because they fired Cassandra Walker, the employee who made the cake, following the virality of the incident.

Walker told USA Today that she worked at the Dairy Queen for about a year and the establishment fired her on her own birthday.

“This is back-to-school time. I have two little girls here,” Walker said. “I have a car that needs fixing. It’s not funny to me.”

Walker claims the marijuana cake was approved by her manager.

“The manager stood behind me while I pulled the images off the internet,” Walker said. “She walked by as I decorated the cake. As I boxed the cake up, she was the one who walked it up to the front.”

Al Autry, a co-owner of the Dairy Queen, was allegedly the one who fired Walker.

“This was a simple misunderstanding from the beginning,” Autry said in a statement given to USA Today. “Our cake decorator designed a cake based on what she thought she heard the customer order. When the customer picked it up and said it was not what she ordered, we immediately apologized for the error and offered to redesign it the way she originally intended. The customer said it was fine, paid for the cake and left.”

Walker was later offered her job back but declined the offer.

“Look at everything that it took,” Walker said.
