Chelsea player ratings: Batshuayi strike gives Lampard dream start to first game as starlet Gallagher shines
FRANK LAMPARD’S first half as a Chelsea manager couldn’t have gone too much better – but the second could.
The returning Michy Batshuayi gave Lampard’s team the lead against Bohemians at Dalymount Park in Dublin, Ireland.
But a late goal from the hosts put a sour note on the first game under Lampard’s reign as they fell to a drew.
SunSport takes a look at how the Blues did in either half.
FIRST HALF:
Willy Caballero
Barely troubled, unsurprisingly, but one shot late in the half stung the fingers of the veteran keeper.
Dujon Sterling
Chelsea are blessed with right-backs and Sterling didn’t quite put his name in the contenders to start next season.
Cesar Azpilicueta
Captaining Lampard’s team having previously been his team-mate, the Spaniard was an assured head in central defence.
Marc Guehi
Hardly tested as Chelsea controlled possession in Ireland but made no mistakes and looks a talent for the future at Stamford Bridge.
Kenedy
Back from a loan spell at Newcastle and looking to bring that form to Stamford Bridge, Kenedy played a role in the opening goal with a rampaging run forward.
Danny Drinkwater
Given the chance to return from obscurity at Chelsea, Drinkwater took a while to get into the game but controlled the tempo and showed his experience.
Kasey Palmer
Neither stood out nor did enough to have broken into Lampard’s thoughts for next season.
Ethan Ampadu
Really impressive performance as the screen in front of the back-four. Shame for the David Luiz lookalike is that N’Golo Kante is not yet back with the squad.
Pedro
Troubled Bohemians with his pace movement, switching from the right side to left and cutting inside. Lampard will need him this season after Eden Hazard’s departure.
Conor Gallagher
Academy Player of the Year Gallagher was one of the standout performers, showing off his range of passing but balooning an effort over the bar.
Michy Batshuayi
While it may be against lesser opposition, the Belgian striker looked powerful and used that strength to put the Blues ahead eight minutes into the game.

SECOND HALF:
Jamie Cumming
Couldn’t prevent the late Bohemians equaliser but was barely tested before that despite the hosts pressure.
Davide Zappacosta
The old head in the second 45 minutes did little wrong but will be in a fight for the right-back position next season.
Trevoh Chalobah
Proved his ability as a ball-playing centre-back as he roamed out from the back and played some probing passes into midfield.
Kurt Zouma
Always looks like there’s a mistake in Zouma’s game, but Lampard will hope he can get the form Everton enjoyed last season from the centre-back.
Ian Maatsen
Maatsen neither impressed nor failed in front of the new Chelsea gaffer – but he’ll have to hope for more opportunities.
Billy Gilmour
One of the standout performers in the second 45 minutes, with roaming runs and probing passes. Lampard will have been impressed.
Tiemoue Bakayoko
Ran the midfield for Lampard’s team and at times looked like a man playing against boys.
Lewis Baker
Showed the talent that made him one of the most exciting prospects in Chelsea’s academy.
Lucas Piazon
Struggled to get into the game but had a steady performance and retained possession well.
Ike Ugbo
Didn’t have any chances at goal as the home side grew in confidence and marked him out of the game.

Frustrating night for the 22-year-old who used to be one of Chelsea’s big hopes for the future.
