Marotta Confirms Icardi And Nainggolan Are Not Wanted

Inter Milan director Beppe Marotta has confirmed that both Radja Nainggolan and Mauro Icardi are not in Antonio Conte’s plans and that they will be sold this summer if Inter can find buyers for them both.

The fallen Italian giants are plotting a full squad rebuild as they seek to form a side capable of challenging the dominance of perennial Serie A winners Juventus.

Inter appointed Antonio Conte to lead their revolution, and according to Marotta, the former Chelsea boss will not be calling upon the services of either Icardi or Nainggolan – two of his side’s most well-paid stars.

‘When building a project, you have to find the right profiles,’ Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

‘We had the opportunity to speak to the players themselves, with full respect for their contractual situations, but explained the position of the club, which I think is the most important thing.

‘Both players know full well they are not part of our plans. That doesn’t mean we doubt their talent or capabilities, as I consider them to be two excellent players.

‘Talent can win you games, but the squad wins you the league, which is the main objective we are setting out for. They are not part of our project, with all due respect.’

Marotta also rejected the claim that Icardi could sue the club by pointing out that Inter fully intend to fulfill their contractual obligations by allowing him to train as normal.

However, coach Conte is unlikely to select the striker, particularly as he has his sights set on other potential arrivals.

Romelu Lukaku appears to be at the top of Conte’s wishlist however the Italians have so far seen their overtures pushed back due to their low price evaluation. Nemanja Matic has also been linked, while Diego Godin has arrived from Atletico on a free transfer.
