Girl, 5, died after she was launched from a car hit by a ‘texting driver’
A five-year-old girl died after she was ejected from a car that was hit by a driver who was allegedly texting.
Police say Omer Darz Gorsi, 24, was texting behind the wheel of his Ford F-250 truck on Highway 99 in California and did not see a slow moving Acura Integra ahead of him.
Gorsi reportedly slammed into the back of the car and the force of the impact sent the unnamed girl flying from the vehicle.
California Highway Patrol said Gorsi did not see the car until it was too late because of ‘his inattention while texting on his phone.’
ABC 10 reported that Gorsi continued and hit another car that sent his vehicle airborne. It rolled over, ejecting Gorsi, then came to a stop on its roof.
Authorities said that Erica Vargas, 33, Jorge Yanezperez, 31, and the five-year-old girl were in the Acura at the time of the crash.
Both Vargas and Yanezperez were severely injured in the crash. They were taken to separate hospitals.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Pictures of the vehicle she was allegedly a passenger in show the Acura crushed past the point of recognition.

Gorsi reportedly suffered ‘moderate’ injuries, according to California State Highway Patrol officials.
Authorities also said that both the 5-year-old girl and Gorsi were not wearing their seat belts.
Investigators said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
No one was arrested in connection with the crash. Police said she will be identified by the coroner’s office pending notification of family.
