Germany loses track of 160 citizens that travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight for ISIS
GERMANY has lost track of over 160 IS fighters who travelled to Iraq and Syria to fight for the death cult.
Germany, led by Angela Merkel, admitted they do not know where the Jihadis are as they also confessed having “no plan” to deal with 120 others who are locked up in the Middle East.
About a third of the 1,050 Germans who travelled to the war torn countries to join the caliphate since 2013 have returned while 220 are believed dead.
The government said it believes most of the 160 are probably dead but accepted “in rare cases, these individuals could have succeeded in escaping”.
It raises fear they could be returning to Europe to spread hate and Germany said it has stepped up “various measures” including wanted lists to combat the threat, local media reported.
The revelation comes after European powers snubbed calls by President Donald Trump for them to accept the return of IS fighters from their countries.
Around 800 foreign jihadists are currently in Kurdish custody along with 700 wives and 1,500 children in camps.
Mr Trump tweeted last week: “Asking Britain, France, Germany and other European allies to take back over 800 Isis fighters that we captured in Syria and put them on trial.”

The president said that jihadists would eventually be freed unless Europe took them back.
He said: “The US does not want to watch as these fighters permeate Europe, which is where they are expected to go.”
But Kurdish forces said they would not free the fighters and European leaders said the situation was “not as easy” as the US leader was making out.
