YouTube Names Martin Kon Vice President of Strategy
YouTube on Monday named media analyst Martin Kon its new vice president of strategy.
Kon joins the Google-owned video giant from Boston Consulting Group, where he was the managing director of its technology, media and telecoms practice.
In his new role, Kon will help YouTube address the challenges and opportunities facing the company. When reached for comment, a company rep said the role comes with broad responsibilities, but declined to mention whether those duties specifically include developing content moderation strategy or helping YouTube decide on which original shows to pursue.

Kon will be based out of YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, California. He will report directly Robert Kyncl, YouTube’s chief business officer.
Kon brings two decades of media advising experience to the company, having worked on a wide variety of projects, from TV to distribution to cable. Before joining Boston Consulting Group, Kon spent 18 years at Oliver Wyman, a global management firm, where he was the co-head of its media and technology division, according to his LinkedIn. YouTube touted Kon’s global perspective in announcing his hire, pointing out he’s been based in London, Munich, Toronto, New York City and Los Angeles at various times in his career.
He holds a master’s degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, and earned his undergraduate degree at Montreal’s McGill University.
