George Clooney to Direct and Star in Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Good Morning, Midnight’ at Netflix
George Clooney has found his next feature film to both direct and star in. Clooney is currently in pre-production on an untitled film based on the sci-fi novel “Good Morning, Midnight” for Netflix, the streamer announced Monday.
This is Clooney’s first film acting role since 2016 starring in “Money Monster” and his first directorial project since 2017’s “Suburbicon.” Clooney will also produce with Grant Heslov for Smokehouse Pictures and will do so alongside Anonymous Content and Syndicate Entertainment, which originally sourced the novel.
Production is set to begin on the film in October. Mark L. Smith wrote the screenplay adapting the novel “Good Morning, Midnight.”

Brooks-Dalton’s novel “Good Morning, Midnight” is a post-apocalyptic tale about the parallel stories of Augustine (Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to make contact with the crew of the Aether spacecraft as they try to return home to Earth.
The book, from 2016, was named one of the best books of the year by Shelf Awareness and the Chicago Review of Books upon its release.
“Grant and I couldn’t be more excited to be involved with this incredible project,” Clooney said in a statement. “Mark is a writer we’ve long admired and his script is haunting. We’re thrilled to be working with our friends at Netflix as well.”

Clooney most recently executive produced, appeared in and directed a pair of episodes of Hulu’s adaptation of “Catch-22.” He’s repped by CAA.
