For Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner, it wasn’t enough to celebrate their union by getting married in an elegant ceremony in upstate New York in October. This past weekend, the supermodel and her venture capitalist husband threw a much larger celebration that included many of their famous friends, including Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.
Kloss and Kushner also made a three-day weekend of it, holding the party at a luxury dude ranch in southern Wyoming so that they and their celebrity friends could go horseback riding and enjoy dinner, dancing and other festivities that adhered to what Kloss described on Instagram as a “Wild West” theme, according to reports.
But as the Daily Mail reported, there was the possibility of some socially awkward moments over the long weekend, given that Joshua Kushner’s brother and sister-in-law — Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump — joined the trip.
That meant that two of President Donald Trump’s senior advisers potentially mingled with other famous people who publicly campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016 or who have been outspoken critics of Trump’s White House.
Kloss and Joshua Kushner both are known to disagree with President Trump on a variety of issues, including gun control, the environment, immigration, and women’s access to reproductive rights and health care.
“Josh and I share a lot of the same liberal values that guide our lives and the things we stand for,” Kloss told Vogue last year. She voted for Hillary Clinton; Joshua Kushner, said to be a lifelong Democrat, raised millions for an Obamacare start-up company he founded, according to Vogue.
But family is family, so that meant that Kloss and Joshua Kushner included his brother and sister-in-law in their elegant dude ranch celebration, the Daily Mail reported.
But if Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner hung out with other guests or attempted party chit-chat with them, such moments weren’t reflected in any of the many photos that Kloss and her guests posted online.
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner only shared one photo from the weekend to her Instagram Story. It shows just the two of them alone. They are posed somewhere outside, according to the Daily Mail. Jared has his arms wrapped around his wife as the two gaze off into the sunset.
Meanwhile, other photos showed Kloss and Joshua Kushner enjoying the weekend’s festivities with their guests, and their guests bonding with one another while donning Western-inspired skirts, hats and boots.
“Wonderful weekend of being loved and celebrating love, congrats to a beautiful union @karliekloss @joshuakushner,” Bloom captioned a photo that showed him and Perry, his fiancee, gazing into each other’s eyes.
Kunis appeared in a number of photos from the weekend, especially with Kloss, with the two looking like close girlfriends. Kunis and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, both have spoken out against Trump’s rhetoric and policies on immigration, women’s rights and other issues.
In an interview on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast last year, Kunis said she had a “blowup” argument with a member of Kutcher’s family during the election, saying that Trump would set back women’s rights.
Kunis also criticized Trump’s statements on Syrian refugees during the 2016 election, citing her own experience fleeing to the United States from the USSR as a child to escape anti-Semitism. She also admitted in 2017 that she made monthly donations to Planned Parenthood in Vice President Mike Pence’s name.
Similarly, Kutcher cited his wife’s refugee experience in expressing anger over Trump’s 2017 executive order to ban refugees from several Muslim-majority countries.
“My wife came to this country on a refugee visa in the middle of the Cold War!” Kutcher tweeted in January 2017. “My blood is boiling right now! We have never been a nation built on fear. Compassion that is the root ethic of America. Our differences are fundamental 2R sustainability.”
Perry was another wedding guest who has made it clear that she is no fan of Trump or his administration. According to a Paper magazine profile in February, the singer revealed she has a dartboard depicting an image of Trump on the back door of a closet in her office.
However, Perry revealed she refused to utter his name out loud, saying: “I have this rule that I just say ’45.’ Everything is an energy. Words. Deep energy.”
