A horse had to be put down after another horse bit a massive portion of its face off.
The incredibly gruesome photos of the disfigured horse were posted on Facebook by the Arrowhead Veterinary Clinic in Payson, Utah on Saturday.
According to the veterinary clinic, the horse survived for a few months after being bitten but it was put down after a skin graft failed.
Animal workers wrote: ‘Distal end of the nasal bones were crushed and lost. Attempts were made to reconstruct the nasal passage.’
‘But without the support of the bones it was hard to provide structure to keep the air way patent.’
The clinic continued, saying the horse ‘couldn’t get structural support of the nasal bones reestablished and without that support, the skin graft failed.’
‘After several unsuccessful attempts, sadly, the horse was humanly (sic) euthanized.’
