I’m devastated after DNA tests showed my sister has a different dad to me

DEAR DEIDRE: DNA tests showed my sister and I have different dads. We’re devastated.

She is 50, I am 48 and our younger brother is 42. Our dad passed away a year ago and his sister dropped a heavy hint that he wasn’t the father of all three of us.

Mum is nearly 70 and had never mentioned us having different dads, so we decided the only way to find out was to have the tests, though our brother refused.

We plucked up the courage to talk to Mum about it and she admitted she was already pregnant with my sister when she got together with my father.

She says our brother has the same father as me. She almost seemed relieved to get the details off her chest.

I just feel we were all brought up with a lie.

DEIDRE SAYS: If the man you thought of as Dad was a loving parent to all three of you, that matters far more than bloodlines.

Talk to your mum some more, listen to her story and your places in it.
