Free fall ride plunges 140ft before cables snap seconds from the ground almost killing all 12 tourists on board

TWELVE riders narrowly escaped death after a cable snapped just feet from the ground during a 150 foot free fall ride.

Thankfully, the short distance to the ground meant they were able to escape any serious injuries.

Twelve riders narrowly avoiding injury after a ride cable snapped

The ‘Free Fall Tower’ at Queensland Amusement Park in India was caught on video on June 18 as 24 passengers were slowly taken to the top of the ride.

At first, the two carriages drop to the ground as part of the free-fall, before climbing back to the top of the ride.

As it reaches 150 feet, they both then drop to the ground at speed.

Suddenly, the carriage on the right plummets at around 10 feet with the cables snapping, becoming loose above the ride.

Other guests who are watching the ride shout in shock as the ride carriage breaks.

According to The News Minute, the park has since been temporarily shut down as it is looked into.

First aid was administered but the extent of the injuries has not been revealed.

Assistant Commissioner Muthuvel Pandi said: “They were lucky that the fall was only from 10 feet.

“If it had been from the top of the ride (150 feet), all 12 of them would have died.”

He also claims that the theme park did not contact police regarding the matter, and made arrangements with the riders to contain the incident.

It comes two months after police sent a notice about the safety conditions off the ride, according to The New Minute.

The police have requested certificates proving the safety of other rides, with the park remaining closed until then.

Earlier this week, another ride broke down at a theme park in India, with four guests left injured on a ride at Wonderla park in Bengalu.

Earlier this year, guests at Drayton Manor were left suspended ‘100 foot in the air’ after a ride broke down although no-one was injured.

A young boy was seriously injured at Lightwater Valley theme park after falling 30 foot to the ground.

Sun Online Travel has contacted Queensland Amusement Park for comment.
