ROBERT Preston is going to have to brush up on his lying skills in Coronation Street now he’s knowingly embarking on a double life.
Fans of the ITV soap know that, despite reuniting with love of his life Michelle Connor, Rob also has a pregnant lover waiting in the wings in the form of former Underworld worker Vicky Jefferies.
In tonight’s episodes Robert –who split with Michelle earlier this year over his desires to be a father – will have a tough time juggling the two ladies in his life.
First of all he has to think on his feet when Vicky grills him about Michelle and asks him if they’re back together. She’s picked up on Robert’s jumpiness and thinks she’s onto something with her theory.
Even though she’s bang on, Robert assures her that he and Michelle are history.
But then – in a cruel twist – Robert uses Michelle’s previous experience of baby loss to his advantage.
Referencing baby Ruairi – the son Michelle and then-husband Steve McDonald lost during the second trimester of pregnancy – Robert tells Vicky that Michelle can never know about her baby news as it would push her over the edge.
A loved-up and sympathetic Vicky agrees to keep her pregnancy quiet. What could go wrong?
Meanwhile Robert then tells Michelle that he thinks a secret wedding is the ultimate proof of their love for each other. He doesn’t mention it’s the ultimate guarantee Vicky doesn’t find out about their rekindled romance.
But Michelle’s son Ryan is super suspicious when Robert arrives late at the bistro and starts hammering on about an accident on the M60.
Later this week, he catches Robert making a furtive phonecall and confronts him about his secrets and lies.
Will Michelle be convinced Robert is up to no good though?
