Carrie Underwood's 2nd-Time-Mom Hack: Scheduling Sob Sessions

Country icon Carrie Underwood has plenty of reasons to smile — one being she’s made the top 100 Reasons to Love America list curated by People — but second-time-around motherhood has Underwood scheduling time to cry as part of her self-care routine.

Underwood and husband Mike Fisher share sons Isaiah, 4, and baby Jacob, 4 months. Despite the fact that the new bebe is, according to Underwood, “this perfect little bundle of a smiley guy,” Underwood’s emotions have been intense.

The American Idol alum told People, “Sometimes I feel like I just need to cry, for no reason, and there’s not anything that happened… I’ve learned to be okay with that, whereas five or 10 years ago I would have been like, ‘Oh my God, something’s wrong with me!'”

The singer is currently traveling with her family on her Cry Pretty 360 tour. Before embarking on the adventure, Underwood said she phoned her mom for a heart-to-heart. “I called my mom and said, ‘I need to schedule myself a cry, is that weird?'” she said. Underwood’s mom had great advice: “No, you do what you gotta do!”

Underwood continued about her tearful sessions, “Sometimes it’s just best to let it out. It’s me-time!” We so relate.

The country superstar is taking on more than 55 cities with her family in tow. Parenting comes first, according to Underwood. In every arena, she and Fisher make sure there’s a place for Isaiah to play or make art. “He’s a pretty creative kid, so we try to give him space to do that,” she said.

Underwood posted an adorable Instagram shot of Isaiah and her on the tour, captioned, “…just another day at the office! I love my job.”

She also posted a sweet tribute to her husband for Father’s Day:

Is Underwood feeling different momming the second time around? She says yes. “… I think I baby Jacob more. I’m like, ‘Oh, no, he can’t sit up in that thing,’ and it’s stuff that we had Isaiah doing already… I feel like I need to treat him a little more like I did Isaiah.”
