U12 Regional Champions!
Congrats to our ‘07 Surf Girls on their 2-1 win over Legends earning them the Champions title at #FarWestRegionals. Our 2007 Academy Select Team qualified for Far West Regionals having won BOTH CRL (California Regional League) and National Cup – this is the fouth year in a row that our 2007 Academy Select team has won state cup.

“I can’t really express how proud I am of this group of players! It truly is a testament to the mentality of this group to continuously achieve the things they do on a consistent basis,” said Coach Craig Barclay. “Each and every single player brings something different and unique to the team and that is what truly makes this group so special,” added Barclay.
The girls got off to a good start in the tournament and quickly advanced to the knock out stage having won their bracket scoring a total of 16 goals in three games. The girls swept aside IE Legends and Real Colorado in the quarter and semi-final before facing a fellow Cal South team Legends in the final. With a close first half, the game was a stalemate at the break. However, a well-taken free-kick and a penalty from Mel Barcenas gave Surf the advantage. With Legends pushing for a goal, Surf defense did an amazing job to keep the 2 goal advantage. Legends did pull a goal back with 3 minutes left but Surf kept calm under the pressure to see out the game and take the Far West Regional Championship.
“It’s not just what the do on the field that makes this team click. Their friendship and camaraderie off the field plays an important role. Although Far West Regionals was in Silverlakes, we wanted to give them the FWR experience and had lots of team building between games including bowling, escape room, movie theater, beach party and even a limo ride home after their championship,” said Barclay.
“I would like to say a big thank you to all the parents for their continuous support and trust in myself and the program. A massive thank you has to go to Vanessa Paolini, our team manager, for organizing all our team events and supporting the girls behind the scenes. Without her, as well as the other parents support, non of this would be possible!”
