“Encore!” Only a longtime Warriors fan would remember that’s the slogan the team adopted after winning its first title 44 years ago.
But the encore performance the Warriors have planned at halftime in their final game at Oracle Arena Thursday night could resonate with fans for years. That’s what Mistah Fab is hoping for when he and three other Bay Area-based hip-hop legends entertain the crowd at Game 6.
Mistah Fab will be joined by G-Eazy, Too Short and E-40 in a star-studded farewell to the Warriors’ home of the past 47 years.
“What would be a greater way to go out than have some artists who are from the area, that represent the soil, to perform in front of the people?” Mistah Fab told KPIX-TV. “Years later we can go back and say, ‘Man, we performed the last performance at (an) Oakland Warriors game.’ “
Nonetheless, he’s also hoping their performance has a much more immediate impact.
“I hope that it’s enough to fuel the fire for us to go out and get a victory,” Mistah Fab said.
Oakland-born Gerald Gillum, much better known as G-Eazy, talked sentimentality in an Instagram post Thursday morning.
“Performing at halftime tonight with the legends I grew up on for the last game ever to be played at Oracle arena. Life is hella crazy.”
