Cuba Gooding Jr. has turned himself in to the NYPD after a woman accused him of groping her at a bar

• Cuba Gooding Jr. turned himself in to police in connection to an allegation he groped a woman at a Manhattan nightclub on Sunday.
• Lawyer Mark Heller said Thursday he was initially hesitant to let the "Jerry Maguire" star surrender after reviewing security video that he said showed no criminality.

Cuba Gooding Jr. turned himself in to police Thursday afternoon to answer questions after a woman accused the actor of groping her at a Manhattan rooftop bar on Sunday.

Video shows the Oscar-winning actor arriving at the NYPD's Special Victims Unit in Harlem Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Gooding's lawyer Mark Heller told the Associated Press that the actor would surrender to police, even though he believes video proves Gooding is innocent. 

A 29-year-old woman told police the 51-year-old Gooding grabbed her breast while he was intoxicated around 11:15 p.m. Sunday at the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge.

 

Confronted by a TMZ cameraman on Wednesday as he arrived at the airport in Los Angeles to board a New York-bound flight, Gooding denied the allegations and said he "trusts the system" and that there's a tape that "shows what really happened."

His lawyer, Heller, said the video shows "there is not the slightest scintilla of inappropriate conduct on his part."

The lawyer also disputes allegations in media reports from a second woman who said Gooding grabbed her buttocks at a New York City restaurant in 2008.

When asked about the allegation on Monday, NYPD spokesman Detective Martin Brown said the department doesn't "really have anything official to say about it" but that the matter is "currently under investigation."

Gooding won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1996 for his role as Rod Ridwell in "Jerry Maguire." More recently, in 2016, he was nominated for an Emmy for playing O.J. Simpson in the miniseries "The People v. O.J. Simpson."
