Blues' Ryan O'Reilly drops F-bomb on live TV in post-Stanley Cup interview, immediately apologizes

St. Louis Blues center Ryan O’Reilly was beyond ecstatic Wednesday night, and he had every reason to be after leading his team through a spectacular Stanley Cup Playoffs run that ended in its first championship since it joined the league in 1967.

Ultimately the Conn Smythe Trophy winner, O’Reilly scored the Blues first goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins, finishing the season on a six-game points streak and with a franchise record for his 23 total playoff points.

So when the Blues took down the Bruins, 4-1, O’Reilly couldn’t contain his happiness and excitement. And he shouldn’t have to, but it also led to him dropping an F-bomb on live TV — it was one of many overheard Wednesday night — in an on-ice interview with Sportsnet after the game.

O’Reilly was praising the performance of the team’s rookie goalie, Jordan Binnington, and then went on to talk about at what point he knew his team was going to win its first Stanley Cup.

And history was actually on his side for that. It’s been more than 30 years since a Stanley Cup Final Game 7 had a lead change, so although O’Reilly’s goal didn’t turn out to be the deciding one, it did help continue a trend of the winning team scoring first.

After the game on the ice, O’Reilly said:

“Oh my god. You know, with the way Binner performed there, he was unbelievable. That first period, he made unbelievable saves to give us a chance. We got a little mojo going. Once we got that lead, we got that lead, we knew we were going to get it. I’m sorry, I apologize. I’m so amped up! I’m so sorry!”

The 28-year-old Canadian player immediately realized what he said and began profusely apologizing, which made this moment even funnier and more endearing.
