‘Bills tabled in House sans preparation’

Chitwan, June 12

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal today admitted that the government had tabled bills, including Media Council Bill, in the Parliament without necessary preparation.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Organisation Chitwan at Bharatpur airport, Dahal held that the bills tabled without adequate homework had created controversy and dispute.

Noting that discussions were under way on the bills, including Media Council Bill, Dahal acknowledged that the bills had some flaws. “The party and the government have become cautious about flaws,” he said assuring that the government would bring the bills only after required preparations in the coming days. He opined that the Media Council Bill would be revised before it was endorsed by the Parliament.

Dahal said the government would take a decision on the public notice published by the Federal Public Service Commission to hire civil servants for local levels after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli returned to the country. “Parliamentary State Affairs and Good Governance Committee has directed the government to scrap the public notice. We will settle the issue once the prime minister returns,” he added.

Dahal said the agreement signed between him and PM Oli on becoming prime minister turn-wise was not new. “The issue emerged as something new in the media, but this is an old agreement. We shall move ahead as per the agreement signed in the past. Government leadership will change in accordance with the pact,” he added.

Dahal pledged that the government would lend necessary support for construction of Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Chitwan. “Efforts are under way to collect donation for the stadium.

Dahal said a discussion was going on within the party to fix the name and headquarters of Province 3. He expressed confidence that unification of the party would be finalised in a package shortly. “We have solved major issues of the unification process. The remaining work related to unification of the then CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre will be completed soon,” he said.

Speaking at Achyut National Talent Award distribution ceremony organised in Bharatpur, Dahal said the conflict between regressive forces and progressive forces was still on.

Dahal said people had pinned great hopes on the government with two-thirds majority. “We are making efforts to fulfil people’s needs and expectations,” he added.
