Mordhau Celebrates 1 Million Copies Sold With New Map
After only a little more than a month for sale on Steam, Mordhau has hit the major milestone of 1 million copies sold, and international developer Triternion is celebrating with a new map. That brings the game's total map count to eight; five of which can be played on the game's premier Frontline mode.
Mordhau is a competitive multiplayer game with a medieval combat twist, and players can duke it out in Middle Ages-themed maps in large and small scale battles for gold and glory. Despite its niche nature and relatively limited marketing campaign, it's a unique and well-made online experience that has garnered and maintained a solid following since its release. Clearly, the developers have been hard at work in the hectic period after launch in an attempt to keep the interest of their swelling playerbase, and now they're eager to share the fruits of their labor with the Mordhau community.
Triternion unveiled the latest Mordhau map on the game's Steam Community page, and it's a cavalry-focused Frontline map titled Crossroads. Featuring only a close-quarters central castle keep for infantry combat, Crossroads is a symmetrical battlefield that gives each opposing side access to more horses than anything else Mordhau currently has to offer. The castle also introduces a brand new siege engine: the mortar, a heavy-hitting cannon progenitor. This seventh post-launch update coincides with the game's one millionth copy sold, for which the development team excitedly shared:
"First of all, thank you for the support! In the past month, we’ve hit 1 million copies sold; we can’t thank you enough and we’re so happy you’re enjoying MORDHAU!"
Beyond the new map and the latest artillery piece to join the likes of the trebuchet and ballista, this celebratory Mordhau update also adds new melee weapons, like the heavy handaxe and javelin - the latter of which has already become massively popular in the online meta. Beyond that, some additional cosmetic options were added to chest plate customization along with a bevy of balancing changes to all aspects of gameplay. In the realm of multiplayer gaming, timely and sizable updates are the difference between successful growth and a complete fade into obscurity, and Triternion seems to be squarely on the former path. Their dedication and community transparency so far into the game's life points to the studio being in it for the long haul with Mordhau, so it will be exciting to continue to watch the game change and grow in the coming months and years.
