Boris Johnson is disliked in Scotland more than he is in any other part of Britain, according to a poll.
Research confirms the prospect of the bumbling Brexiteer as prime minister would be toxic for Ruth Davidson’s hopes for a Scots Tory revival.
The YouGov survey found 26 per cent of Brits think Johnson would make a good PM – but only 13 per cent of Scots do.
In contrast, 55 per cent of Brits think he would make a bad prime minister but the number rises to 65 per cent in Scotland.
A regional breakdown shows 60 per cent of Londoners, 49 per cent of the south of England voters, 50 per cent in Midlands and Wales and 51 per cent of voters in the north of England don’t rate Johnson.
But he is bookies’ favourite to become leader of the Conservatives.
Davidson has long been worried having Johnson as PM would hurt the Scots Tories and boost support for independence.
Johnson yesterday won a legal battle to avoid appearing in court over allegations he committed misconduct in office by “misleading the public”.
His lawyer told the High Court a private prosecution over Johnson’s claims during the Brexit campaign that the UK pays the EU £350million a week was “politically motivated and vexatious”.
Adrian Darbishire QC said the district judge who summonsed the former foreign secretary to court last month had “erred in law”.
