Cricket World Cup 2019: We still believe that we can win this competition: Jason Holder

West Indies players wore a dejected look after Australia pulled off a sensational 15-run win in Match 10 of the ICC World Cup 2019 on Thursday. After Shai Hope’s brilliant 68, captain Jason Holder smashed a half-century that put the West Indies on track to chase down 289.

However, with plenty of umpiring howlers that marred the game and a Mitchell Starc five-wicket haul, the evident was unstoppable.

“Ya, obviously we are disappointed. Few irresponsible shots. We had to stick it around a little bit more. Still lot of positives came out of this match,” Holder said at the post-match presentation at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Holder was critical of his fielding and batting department. “We dropped Nathan Coulter-Nile when he was 60 odd and he ended up getting another 30-odd runs, that was one of the pivotal moments. Batsmen should have taken responsibility and chased down the total,” he said.

However, he still believes that the West Indies, pitted as the underdogs in the tournament, can clinch the trophy. “We still believe that we can win this competition. It is still early days in tournament, competition is wide open. We just have to be more consistent,” he said.
