Noah Syndergaard Pitches Well Before Mickey Callaway Makes Crucial Mistake

In the first game of this series, the Mets lose in an incredibly awful 9-3 loss courtesy of the Mets bullpen. The good news is, Noah Syndergaard threw a few great innings before the Giants blew the team away and tacked on six more runs.

With the worst ERA out of the five starters in the Mets rotation, Noah Syndergaard came in and had a lot more success in the 100th outing of his career. While his ERA before today’s outing sat at 4.90 he managed to lower it to 4.83. While he has a long way to go before getting to a more telling number, he was solid in Tuesday night’s outing. His FIP reveals more about his successes sitting at 3.62 and has a WHIP of 1.27.

Noah Syndergaard was pulled after 103 pitches after throwing 6.2 innings of two-run baseball in which he struck out four batters while allowing five hits and three walks.

With two outs in the inning and a man on first base, a call to the bullpen was made to switch Seth Lugo into the game to face Evan Longoria. Overall, a great outing by the hard-throwing right-hander.

Syndergaard seemed displeased by the called his manager made to take him out, but nonetheless, his night was over just before the end of the sixth inning. The run on first did come around to score after Lugo gave up two hits, tacking on one more run to the starter’s night.

Mickey Callaway addressed the media after the game and spoke about the decision to pull Syndergaard, expressing regret.

“I think there were several reasons we were discussing it on the bench. That’s one I’d like to have that one back.”

One of his reasons for taking his starter out of the game was the runner on first they were discussing the thought of him possibly stealing against Syndergaard, but admits “he deserved the benefit of the doubt there.”

When asked about the conversation Noah Syndergaard wanted to have before being taken out, Mickey told him he was already out of the game, so there was really no reason to fight back.

Syndergaard also talked to the media after the game about his outing and said he “was a bit surprised but in that moment…I got frustrated.”

Syndergaard mentioned that Mickey Callaway spoke to the team after the game and mentioned that, “As a whole as a team he was remorseful at that decision” He further explained,

“A man that is knowledgeable about the mistakes he makes is more respected in our eyes”

Overall, Syndergaard seemed forgiving mentioning that everyone is “eligible to make mistakes” and that it “it’s a learning experience”.
