New Zamfara governor begins payment of N1.3bn NECO debt accrued since 2015

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara has embarked on the payment of the N1.3 billion National Examination Council (NECO) arrears which started accruing from 2015.
Governor Matawalle made this disclosure as he hosted some orphans to a breakfast in his residence in Gusau.

He revealed that public secondary school students of the 2018 set who sat for the examination have been unable able to access their results as a results of the debt owed by the previous administration.
Governor Matawalle said: “Education will continue to be one of the priority areas of my administration and it is in order to demonstrate our seriousness that we are going to offset the debt in installments but within the shortest possible time.
“The governor also called on parents to have confidence in his leadership and allow their children to go and sit for the coming NECO examination as the state government has resumed full payment so that the students will not lose out.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Matawalle had announced that his administration would offer free healthcare services to women and children in the state.
Matawalle who made the declaration on Wednesday, May 28, shortly after taking his oath of office at the Trade Fair ground, Gusau, said that the new government would be comprehensive.
