Some prognostic biomarkers of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) have been described; however, they are inadequate for satisfactorily predicting individual patient outcomes. Fasciculation potentials (FPs) on electromyography (EMG) are useful for the early diagnosis of ALS, and complex FPs are associated with shorter survival in ALS. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the proportion of muscles with FPs, biochemical markers, and the prognosis of ALS. Читать дальше...

We examine the gender gap in faculty promotion at the University of Geneva. After building a new measure of research quality that has no gender bias (i.e. men and women have, on average, the same level of research quality after we control for disciplines), we find that conditional on research quality, discipline and place where the PhD was obtained, women are 11 percent less likely to get promoted. The gender gap is almost three times larger... Читать дальше...

BackgroundUremic pruritus (UP) or chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is one of the most intractable dermatologic symptom in patients with chronic kidney disease. Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have been conducted to investigate the antipruritic effects of acupuncture on UP/CKD-aP and suggested a significant therapeutic effect, while the evidence supporting the application of acupuncture is limited.

BackgroundNeonatal hypothermia is a worldwide problem that can lead to a high impact on neonatal health outcomes if appropriate thermal care measures are not implemented. Tackling neonatal hypothermia from the time of delivery with appropriate thermal care measures will increase neonatal survival and decrease complications related to hypothermia.
ObjectiveThe study aims to determine the predictors of neonatal hypothermia within... Читать дальше...

In many countries, public transport (PT) services are offered by multiple operators with different modes, such as trains, metros, and buses, which are interchangeable across a single journey. This paper presents a model with one origin (O)-destination(D) path operated by two operators, each of which is responsible for different parts of the OD journey. One operator competes with potential third-party transport companies by offering discount incentives. Читать дальше...

Improving farmer cooperatives’ operating performance is essential for their economic sustainability and for promoting sustainable agricultural development. Despite the prominent role of benefit distribution and asset specificity in cooperation organizations, their impact on performance remains controversial, and the relationship between the three is unclear. This study focuses on cooperative benefit distribution in terms of their rebates (first and second rebates)... Читать дальше...

IntroductionCongenital transmission is one of the most significant forms of Trypanosoma cruzi transmission worldwide. Migrant women, in particular, often face barriers to accessing the healthcare system; one such barrier being that their health rights are not recognised. The situation in Chile is a reality that can be extrapolated to historical territories affected by Chagas disease and that is characterized by migrant populations. This article explores the... Ramp controllers are required to manage their workloads effectively while handling complex operational tasks, a crucial part of improving aviation safety. The ability to detect their instantaneous workload is vital for ensuring operational effectiveness and preventing hazardous incidents. This paper introduces a novel methodology aimed at enhancing the evaluation of the ramp controller’s cumulative workload by incorporating and optimizing the feature combination from eye movement... Autism is a developmental disability. Research demonstrated that children with autism benefit from early diagnosis and early intervention. Genetic factors are considered major contributors to the development of autism. Machine learning (ML), including deep learning (DL), has been evaluated in phenotype prediction, but this method has been limited in its application to autism. We developed a DL model, the Separate Translated Autism Research Neural... Читать дальше...
