Our mattress expert toured the 3Z Brands factory in Arizona. He went behind the scenes of the mattress-making process, from pouring foam to boxing.
Joe Biden was about to become president, and the Alito household was in distress. On May 16, the New York Times reported that, during the tense period between the January 6 insurrection and Biden’s inauguration, Justice Samuel Alito’s family displayed an upside-down American flag outside their home. An upside-down flag is a distress signal — […]
They may not be real moons, but they're worth exploring and studying.
“The dream house” was how the clients described the property to the Mandril Arquitetura team, led by Helena Kallas and Bruno Reis, as soon as they came across the residence with the characteristics they had dreamed of: being close to the city but with the comfort of the countryside, in a space where they could gather, have contact with plants, and where the dogs could feel free. An old house, but the structure and choice of finishes were very assertive, requiring some adjustments to meet current demands. Читать дальше...

The aim of this study was to phenotypically characterize Guraghe and Jimma cattle breeds at the farm level and quantify the relationships between them. Eight morphometric measurements and sixteen morphological traits were recorded for a total of 313 (221 females and 92 males) randomly selected adult cattle from three purposively selected districts. Univariate and multivariate analysis procedures of Statistical Analysis Software... Читать дальше...

This study explores the potential of utilizing alternative data sources to enhance the accuracy of credit scoring models, compared to relying solely on traditional data sources, such as credit bureau data. A comprehensive dataset from the Home Credit Group’s home loan portfolio is analysed. The research examines the impact of incorporating alternative predictors that are typically overlooked, such as an applicant’s social network default status... Читать дальше...

The corrosion resistance of FRP-reinforced ordinary concrete members under the combined action of harsh environments (i.e., alkaline or acidic solutions, salt solutions) and freeze-thaw cycles is still unclear. To study the mechanical and apparent deterioration of carbon/basalt/glass/aramid fiber cloth reinforced concrete under chemical and freeze-thaw coupling. Plain concrete blocks and FRP-bonded concrete blocks were fabricated. The tensile... Читать дальше...

BackgroundTuberculosis (TB) is a global public health problem. Evaluation of TB treatment outcome enables health institutions to measure and improve the effectiveness of TB control programs. This study aimed to assess treatment outcomes of tuberculosis and identify associated factors among TB patients registered at Alemgena Health Center, Oromia, Ethiopia.
MethodA retrospective study was conducted; Secondary data were collected... Читать дальше...

This paper provides a comprehensive and computationally efficient case study for uncertainty quantification (UQ) and global sensitivity analysis (GSA) in a neuron model incorporating ion concentration dynamics. We address how challenges with UQ and GSA in this context can be approached and solved, including challenges related to computational cost, parameters affecting the system’s resting state, and the presence of both fast and slow dynamics. Bayesian models have proven effective in characterizing perception, behavior, and neural encoding across diverse species and systems. The neural implementation of Bayesian inference in the barn owl’s sound localization system and behavior has been previously explained by a non-uniform population code model. This model specifies the neural population activity pattern required for a population vector readout to match the optimal Bayesian estimate. Читать дальше...

BackgroundThe fatality rate is a crucial metric for guiding public health policies during an ongoing epidemic. For COVID-19, the age structure of the confirmed cases changes over time, bringing a substantial impact on the real-time estimation of fatality. A ‘spurious decrease’ in fatality rate can be caused by a shift in confirmed cases towards younger ages even if the fatalities remain unchanged across different ages.
MethodsTo address this issue, we... Читать дальше...

China has experienced rapid development in the digital economy. Using data from 30 provinces in China between 2011 and 2017, this paper constructs a two-way fixed effects model to study the effects and mechanisms of the digital economy development on social insurance funds revenue. An increase of one unit in digital economy development led to a 0.56% increase in basic endowment insurance funds revenue and a 0.33% increase in basic health insurance funds revenue. By using the power-exponential function method and the extended hyperbolic auxiliary equation method, we present the explicit solutions of the subsidiary elliptic-like equation. With the aid of the subsidiary elliptic-like equation and a simple transformation, we obtain the exact solutions of Hirota equation which include bright solitary wave, dark solitary wave, bell profile solitary wave solutions and Jacobian elliptic function solutions. Some of these solutions are found for the first time... Читать дальше...
