Distraught Lucas Torreira leaves the pitch in tears and cries on the bench during Arsenal’s Europa League humiliation
LUCAS TORREIRA wore the pain of Arsenal’s Europa League final humiliation deeper than anyone – as he wept when he was substituted and continued crying on the bench.
Chelsea were 3-1 up at the time, with Eden Hazard later completing his double amid scintillating Sarri-ball in Baku.
And Uruguay midfielder Torreira caught the eye of social media when tears ran down his face.
The 23-year-old bent over to wipe away tears with his Gunners’ shirt as he slumped off to be replaced by Alex Iwobi on 67 minutes.
And Torreira looked just as distraught when he got back to the dug-out.
He even struggled to watch the rest of the 4-1 defeat as he put his head in his knees.
One Arsenal fan posted a picture of the summer 2018 buy with the words: “We are all like Torreira right now @arsenal.”
But others contrasted Torreira’s emotions with what they felt was another under-par display from the Gunners‘ huge-earning German Mesut Ozil.
‘DREADFUL’
One such tweet was: “Torreira only been at the club for a few months and he crying, while people like Özil walking around the pitch. Dreadful.”

A few supporters, perhaps from Chelsea, took the chance to taunt Torreira and Arsenal for “being dominated in another big game”.
But despite Chelsea’s handsome win securing a Champions League spot next season, many Blues’ supporters might soon be just as upset as Torreira.
That’s because two-goal maestro Hazard virtually confirmed, straight after victory in Azerbaijan, that he will be joining Real Madrid within days.
