‘Child abuser spanked girl, 2, so hard she suffered serious internal injuries’

An alleged child abuser spanked a two year-old girl so hard she suffered serious internal injuries, police say.

Tasheem Battles, 28, reportedly left the toddler with injuries on her pancreas and liver, a cut to her spleen, as well as bruising to her stomach.

He reportedly battered his victim last month, with the battering leaving the girl suffering from stomach pain.

That prompted her mother to take her to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Doctors there called police over fears the youngster may have been abused, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

Those cops visited the Battles, the mother and child five days later, the Omaha World Herald reported.

It was during that visit that Battles reportedly said he may have caused the injuries by spanking her the night before she complained of stomach pain.

He is said to have confessed to bending her over his knee before doing so.

A police affidavit seen by the Herald claims Battles said he was ‘frustrated and spanked (the girl) with more force than he meant to.’

The girl’s mother has moved out of the house she had been renting from Battles brother.

Neither her relationship nor her daughter’s relationship to Battles has been outlined.

Battles has been charged with intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, and is being held in Douglas County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

If convicted, he faces up to 50 years in jail.
