A not so happy birthday for Ryan Burr. The right-handed reliever made the White Sox Opening Day roster, but unfortunately he’s already suffered a couple arm injuries. In late April the White Sox sent Burr to the injured list with AC joint inflammation in his right shoulder. He was out for almost two weeks, but returned on May 6.
Now, Burr is heading back to the injured list and this time it’s because of an elbow injury.
Taking his place in the bullpen is Jose Ruiz, who’s been called up for the third time this season from Triple-A.
Burr will be out for a few weeks before the White Sox check on his status again. He pitched much better after returning from his shoulder injury and only gave up two runs to the Twins on Friday. Prior to that he had only allowed one unearned run in five appearances over six innings.
And maybe the third time’s the charm for Ruiz. He’s given up seven earned runs in 12.1 innings with the White Sox so far this season, while pitching 5.1 scoreless innings at Triple-A between his MLB stints.
The White Sox will finish up their suspended game from Monday against the Royals starting at 4:40 p.m. and then play their regularly scheduled night game afterward.
