Workers began a 48-hour general strike in Sudan on May 28, aimed at pressuring the ruling military council to return to talks and facilitate the transfer of power to civilians. The Sudanese Professionals Association, a group that came to prominence during protests that ousted President Omar al-Bashir, led calls for the strike, saying it was seeking “the immediate transfer of power to a civilian government.” The association called on all workers to picket their places of work, and to join sit-ins and protests at the end of the working day.
