BackgroundIn CT-guided transthoracic lung biopsy (CTLB), pneumothorax can occur as a late complication (delayed pneumothorax). The incidence, risk factors, and clinical significance of delayed pneumothorax are not well known.
ObjectivesTo compare the risk factors for immediate and delayed pneumothorax after CTLB and to know their clinical significance.
MethodsImages and medical records of 536 consecutive patients who underwent CTLB were reviewed. Читать дальше...

Bacteria often possess relatively flexible genome structures and adaptive genetic variants that allow survival in unfavorable growth conditions. Bacterial survival tactics in disadvantageous microenvironments include mutations that are beneficial against threats in their niche. Here, we report that the aerobic rice bacterial pathogen Burkholderia glumae BGR1 changes a specific gene for improved survival in static culture conditions. Читать дальше...

Pan-genomic open reading frames (ORFs) potentially carry protein-coding gene or coding variant information in a population. In this study, we suggest that pan-genomic ORFs are promising to be utilized in estimation of heritability and genomic prediction. A Saccharomyces cerevisiae dataset with whole-genome SNPs, pan-genomic ORFs, and the copy numbers of those ORFs is used to test the effectiveness of ORF data as a predictor in three prediction models for 35 traits. Arterial growth and remodeling at the tissue level is driven by mechanobiological processes at cellular and sub-cellular levels. Although it is widely accepted that cells seek to promote tissue homeostasis in response to biochemical and biomechanical cues—such as increased wall stress in hypertension—the ways by which these cues translate into tissue maintenance, adaptation, or maladaptation are far from understood. In this paper, we present a logic-based computational... Читать дальше...

The integration of normative and descriptive analyses of decision processes in humans struggles with the fact that measuring preferences by different procedures yields different rankings and that humans appear irrationally impulsive (namely, show maladaptive preference for immediacy). Failure of procedure invariance has led to the widespread hypothesis that preferences are constructed “on the spot” by cognitive evaluations performed at choice time... HARRY MAGUIRE is an authentic man of the people, a cracking bloke, a folk hero for England’s drinking classes. They sing his name to the tune of La Bamba: “He drinks the vodka, he drinks the Jager, his head’s f***ing massive!” Although, apparently, Maguire doesn’t have a taste for the shorts and shots. According to […]
THIAGO SILVA is 36 next month but insists he wants to play for “three or four more years”. Which should make Chelsea the last place on earth for him to try his luck. The club have just seen his fellow Brazilian, winger Willian — 32 and still one of their best performers — quit to […]
