- The Senator-elect for Abia north, Orji Uzor Kalu, earlier said he was among the senators that endorsed Lawan for the position of Senate president
About 51 out of the 66 senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have endorsed pledged to vote for Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila to lead the 9th National Assembly.
Daily Trust reports that House of Representatives-elected members for Ibadan north federal constituency, Musiliudeen Akinremi made this known on Saturday, May 25.
Akinremi who is the coordinator of reps-elects for Gbajabiamla said: "We will keep talking to our colleagues from across the six geopolitical zones.

"Write it down, Gbajabiamila may emerge unopposed. We are sure of well over 200 members’ support when the house convene on June 11.
"For us, the ninth National Assembly should go beyond party affiliation but the need to have qualified, experienced and highly cerebral lawmaker in the person of Gbajabiamila in office as speaker to work with the executive and judiciary to effect positive changes in the nation’s body polity.
"No force can stop the well-deserved victory of Femi Gbajabiamila and we urge all so-called Speakership aspirants, including Hon Wase, Hon Betara, John Dyegh, Hon Bago, Hon Babangida and Hon Namdas to step down and get integrated into the Gbajabiamila structure before it is too late to do so.”
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the APC senator-elect for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Monday, May 27, declared his intention to contest the deputy Senate president position in the ninth National Assembly.
Kalu explained that he was waiting for the party to zone and if the party continues to hold it, he will contest on the floor of the House.

He said: “Well, I am going to be contesting on the floor of the Senate. I am waiting for the party to zone and, if the party continues to hold it, and don’t zone it, I will contest on the floor of the House."
