Far-west govt conducting language classes for foreign employment

Quite contrary to its own policies and programmes, the government in the Far-west Province is planning to conduct foreign language classes in a bid to send more youths for foreign employment from the province.

The Ministry of Social Development in the province has signed an agreement with Dhangadi-based Star Private Limited to conduct classes for English, Japanese and Korean languages. It has also agreed to provide Rs 3,526,000 for the same.

The policies and programmes of the provincial government clearly state that the government will work towards promoting self-employment and creating more job opportunities in the province.

But it has done nothing towards this end.

Secretary at the Ministry of Social Development Gogan Bahadur Hamal said the government had mentioned about providing language classes to youths for foreign employment in its red book.

Representatives of different organisations said it was unfortunate that instead of utilising the youth manpower in the development of the province, the government was motivating youths to go abroad for employment.

Youth Peace Council Kailai Coordinator Prem Dhungana said the government should not depend on remittance alone. “The government has to create new job opportunities in the country,” he added.

Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Province Chair Shankar Bogati said the government had not worked for the development of industries and promoted self-employment. He said the youths should be given vocational training instead of being made to attend language classes.
