By randomizing the order in which participants perform a cognitive test and a food choice task in a controlled experiment, we investigate whether cognitive capacity can be enhanced by the simple act of anticipating food intake. Our findings show that overweight and obese participants exhibit an anticipatory food reward effect, which helped enhance their mental resources and improve their performance in a cognitive test. However... Читать дальше...

How does the knowledge shared by interlocutors during interaction modify the way speakers speak? Specifically, how does prosody change when speakers know that their addressees do not share the same knowledge as them? We studied these effects in an interactive paradigm in which French speakers gave instructions to addressees about where to place a cross between different objects (e.g., You put the cross between the red mouse and the red house). Integrative and conjugative elements (ICEs) are widespread mobile DNA elements in the prokaryotic world. ICEs are usually retained within the bacterial chromosome, but can be excised and transferred from a donor to a new recipient cell, even of another species. Horizontal transmission of ICEclc, a prevalent ICE in proteobacteria, only occurs from developed specialized transfer competent (tc) cells in the donor population. tc cells become... Читать дальше...

A fundamental and recurrent question in systems neuroscience is that of assessing what variables are encoded by a given population of neurons. Such assessments are often challenging because neurons in one brain area may encode multiple variables, and because neuronal representations might be categorical or non-categorical. These issues are particularly pertinent to the representation of decision variables in the orbitofrontal... Читать дальше...

Determining which proteins interact together is crucial to a systems-level understanding of the cell. Recently, algorithms based on Direct Coupling Analysis (DCA) pairwise maximum-entropy models have allowed to identify interaction partners among paralogous proteins from sequence data. This success of DCA at predicting protein-protein interactions could be mainly based on its known ability to identify pairs of residues that are in contact... Читать дальше...

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a central role in both the innate and adaptive immune systems by recognizing pathogen-associated molecular patterns and inducing the release of the effector molecules of the immune system. The dysregulation of the TLR system may cause various autoimmune diseases and septic shock. A series of molecular dynamics simulations and free energy calculations were performed to investigate the ligand-free, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-bound, and neoseptin3-bound (TLR4-MD2)2 tetramers. Context effects have been explained by either low-level neural adjustments or high-level cognitive processes but not their combination. It is currently unclear how these processes interact to shape individuals’ responses to context. Here, we used a large cohort of human subjects in experiments involving choice between two or three gambles in order to study the dependence of context effects on neural adaptation and individuals’ risk attitudes. Security,
What do you think? What does history tells us?
These were the honorable mentions: Grumman A-6 Intruder, MQ-1 Predator, Caproni Ca.3, Tupolev Tu-95 “Bear,” Avro Vulcan, Tupolev Tu-22M “Backfire.”
Bombers are the essence of strategic airpower. While fighters have often been important to air forces, it was the promise of the heavy bomber than won and kept independence for the United States Air Force and the Royal Air Force. At different points in time... Читать дальше...
