WHEN I saw Bros at the Bafta TV awards a fortnight ago, brothers Matt and Luke Goss assured me they were getting on “better than we ever have”.
Then before he walked off, Luke smirked and said: “But give us a while — that can all change in an instant when we wind each other up.”
And sure enough, that’s exactly what has happened.
I can reveal Bros were due to perform live during the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals next Tuesday, in a huge boost to their renewed music career before their London concerts in July.
But they have now told show boss Simon Cowell they cannot perform — and sources said it’s because the pair had another explosive row.
That’s no surprise to anyone who has seen the cult documentary After The Screaming Stops — essentially a real-life This Is Spinal Tap. It has gone viral since debuting last Christmas on the BBC, in part because of the ongoing feud between the brothers, who seem to lack any form of self-awareness.
The latest fall out will be music to the ears of the documentary makers who are already planning to follow the When Will I Be Famous hitmakers for a sequel showing phase two of their career.
But it won’t be pleasing to the band’s record company Warner, who are plotting their music comeback and looking for prime-time telly exposure.
Last night a spokesman for Bros claimed they had turned down appearing on BGT for “scheduling issues”, adding: “They both love the show and it would have been fun.
“Matt and Luke are doing great and the suggestion of creative differences is untrue. Purely a schedule issue.”
It wouldn’t be a surprise if there are tensions between the Goss brothers right now, given The Sun’s Bizarre column revealed earlier this month Luke has split from his wife of 25 years, Shirley Lewis.
I just hope they put the latest fight behind them soon and prepare to let the cameras back in.
I mean, as Matt so famously put, it: “Rome wasn’t built in a day . . . but we don’t have the time Rome had.”
