THIS is the terrifying moment a gutted fish “came back from the dead” to lunge at a screaming girl.
The freshly caught fish has had its head, skin and insides removed, but appears to twitch and wriggle in the clip.
As the fisherman gets it ready for cooking he splashes water on the dead fish to clean it.
Suddenly the fish starts to shake violently from side to side.
It then jumps off the table at a woman behind the camera, who screams in terror.
The bizarre video was shared on Reddit, where it has been viewed hundreds of times.
“It’s.. ALIIIVE!!” the clip was captioned.
The video has left the internet completely terrified.
After a human or animal dies the remaining energy in the corpse needs to escape.
As muscles begin to relax and energy leaves the body it may start twitching.
There may also be bigger movement and clenching of the muscles.
It is extremely rare and usually only occurs in smaller muscles, like those in the fingers.
One Reddit user commented: “That is some nightmare fuel right there !!!”
“She has every right to scream,” another said.
A third said: “This makes me feel sick.”
While the video might look like something out of a horror film, there’s a simple explanation for what happened to the fish.
Adding salt to exposed muscles triggers the neurons and they begin to contract.
Dead fish will continue to move around until they use up all their energy stores.
It doesn’t mean the fish is alive or in any pain.
The phenomenon isn’t limited to fish as frog legs can still kick after they’ve died and chickens can run around with no heads.
