How Aston Martin is honoring James Bond
A NEW collaboration between Aston Martin and James Bond films producer EON has created a new car fit for the super spy.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” Aston Martin is building 50 “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” DBS Superleggera cars. The special edition models are painted olive green to match the original 1969 Aston Martin DBS driven by James Bond in the movie.
“Aston Martin is synonymous with James Bond and the DBS from ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ has provided great inspiration to the team tasked with creating this very special edition. This new DBS Superleggera will be an extremely distinguished ‘brute in a suit,’ designed to capture the essence of the iconic DBS from the 1969 film but with a 5.2-liter, 715hp, twin-turbo V12 engine,” says Aston Martin Lagonda president and group CEO Andy Palmer.
The special edition DBS Superleggera boasts numerous carbon-fiber pieces, a splitter, an aero blade and unique diamond-turned and forged wheels. A bespoke metal grille with six horizontal vanes evoke the distinctive feature of the DBS featured in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” The car also has commemorative side strakes and numerous unique touches throughout.
The DBS Superleggera’s cabin is trimmed in black leather accented by gray Alcantara — like the original 1969 DBS. Touches of red honor the red-trimmed glovebox in the original car, which held 007’s telescopic-sight rifle.
The Bond DBS Superleggera has a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine set low and as far back in the chassis as possible to optimize the car’s center of gravity and weight distribution. Detailed tuning of the V12, together with an exhaust system with active valves and quad tailpipes, allows the DBS Superleggera a commanding note.
The 50 lucky owners who will get their hands on this James Bond special edition may opt to get a bespoke drinks case that fits perfectly in the car’s trunk. This drinks case has a matching red felt-lined interior that can hold a couple of bottles of champagne and four flutes.
First deliveries of the car is scheduled to start in late 2019. Expect to drive.
