Yes, the homeless are here in Santa Clara County. Yes, they have increased in numbers here. But why? It’s not the cost of housing. It’s the benefits Santa Clara County offers to the homeless and the weather here that is driving them to the county.
The cost to be homeless have not risen. It’s free to pitch a tent and spread litter everywhere. What’s not free is the taxpayer money the county is giving the homeless to “fix the problem.”
When you feed stray cats, you get more stray cats. You aren’t going to fix drug addicts and alcoholics with housing. The mentally ill wandering the streets is also not going to get fixed with housing. Let’s be honest about what is driving them here and why most are homeless to begin with, lifestyle choices and life decisions.
