Hero dog shot while trying to save her family from gang of armed intruders
A heroic dog was shot while trying to defend her family from a gang of armed intruders who stormed their home.
The dark-colored dog was shot at twice, and struck once in the leg, during the terrifying home invasion in Houston, Texas, early Friday.
She sprang into action after the burglars stormed into the home through a back door, which had been left open, and held the family’s father down on the kitchen floor at gunpoint.
The mother and her three children were ordered to stay in bedrooms, while the gang ransacked the house.
But the dog was so upset by the intrusion on her family’s space she began attacking the criminals as they emptied the house of its valuables, prompting the cruel home invaders to shoot her.
Meanwhile, one of the children who lived in the house, a 17 year-old boy, had climbed out an open bedroom window and run to get help.
Realizing he’d escaped, the gang got spooked and fled with cash, a phone and a wallet, dropping the latter as they ran off.
Afterwards, the dog was rushed to an emergency veterinarian, KHOU reported.
She is expected to make a full recovery from her ordeal, and was later seen being carried out of the family’s car with a bandaged paw.
Police are investigating the frightening crime, but say they do not have a description for the suspects.
