Girl, 3, crushed to death by dad’s car after brother, 4, accidentally put it in gear
A three year-old girl was crushed to death by her father’s Mercedes after her brother accidentally bumped its gears into reverse.
The youngster, who was not been named, was in the back of the white S-Class Sedan in Sugar Land, Texas, Tuesday, when her dad got out and ran into his garage to grab something.
He left the luxury car – which weighs up to 5,000lbs, running because he wanted to keep its air-conditioning running for the girl and her four year-old brother.
She exited the car, and while she was out her brother climbed into the front seat.
He then switched the vehicle’s gears – which are an easy to turn dial – so that it began to reverse, striking his sibling and killing her.
Click2Houston reported that both the girl’s dad and sheriff’s deputies who arrived on the scene tried unsuccessfully to save the youngster using CPR.
A little girl’s pink backpack could be seen on the hood of the Mercedes afterwards, while a large blood-colored stain could also be seen on a driveway.
Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office is investigating the tragedy.
A spokesman said: ‘It’s a horrible incident.
‘(Starting the car is) something everybody does, especially around this time of the year.
‘(It’s) just a horrible incident for the family and the community.’
