ESPN talent offers the worst KD, Steph take ever!

You can’t be serious right now! You just can’t!

There are “hot takes” and then there are takes that are so silly, so asinine, that you sit in front of your TV, computer, or phone with the blankest stare that you have ever stared in your life. You’re trying your best to digest the auditory gruel that splattered your ears all the while wondering:

Why is this sports personality getting paid to think? and ...

Maybe the network should get their money back.

The recent comments from ESPN’s Jay Williams definitely fits into the latter category. On Friday morning’s episode of “GET UP”, Mike Greenberg asked Williams what he thought Kevin Durant was thinking as the Golden State Warriors came back from a 15-point halftime deficit to edge the Portland Trailblazers Thursday night to take a 2-0 series lead.

Williams had the unmerited audacity to sit on the set and served those watching at home the following take.

“Well obviously he wants his team to win, but I saw something last night—and I’m not speaking for him— but for me, it kind of bothered me. Stephen Curry was on the free throw line (late in the third quarter) and granted Steph is an incredible player, he’s MVP-caliber, two time MVP, . Take a listen to what the fans were cheering...”

After the show cut to the clip of Oracle chanting MVP! MVP to Curry, Williams continued to lean into his statement.

“It’s like OK, could this ever really be my team? I feel like if you’re a basketball player, you know that’s Kevin Durant’s team. But from the outside looking in, fans still see it as Stephen’s team. And I don’t care what anybody says, that has to sit with you in some kind of form or capacity.”

If reading the words were not bad enough, here’s the segment.

First of all, Warriors fans at Oracle chant MVP when Durant is at the free throw line too. They acknowledge what Durant has accomplished these past three years and they do, generally appreciate all he has done during this time.

Secondly, whether it bothers Williams or not, Curry is a two-time MVP and deserves those cheers as well. He can’t get mad at a fan base for cheering for another MVP who happens to also be more beloved?

The media couldn’t be more blatant in hoping that the Warriors dynasty will die nasty. Out of spite and for the sake of reaction, the Oracle crowd should chant MVP for whoever’s on the floor for the Warriors.

Why not? Petty takes evoke petty responses.
