Shahid Kapoor is extremely impressive in the Kabir Singh trailer as an alcoholic and angry surgeon
When we heard Shahid Kapoor is going to play the role of an alcoholic surgeon in the Hindi version of the hit 2017 Telugu film Arjun Reddy, starring Vijay Deverakonda, we knew Bollywood’s Tommy Singh (Kapoor’s character in Udta Punjab) wouldn’t disappoint! He’s one of the few actors, who live and breathe the roles of any of the characters that they are playing, until they become one with it. We saw him shave his head for Haider; grow his hair out for Udta Punjab and bulk up and pick a sword for Padmaavat.
Shahid Kapoor brings on screen an honest sincerity that immediately connects him to the audience, and with Kabir Singh, he’s yet again completely captured our attention. Along with his on-screen ladylove, Kiara Advani, of course.

The official trailer of Kabir Singh, Kapoor’s first film of the year, dropped a while back and has caused quite a storm on social media since then. The trailer introduces us to a very angry and stubborn Kapoor, who’s a medical student and also an avid fighter — one that never backs down from a fight. After the first couple of frames, we also get to meet the leading lady of the film, Kiara Advani. The trailer as well as the film focuses on the title character, Kabir Singh’s advent into alcoholism and drugs, after his ex-lover and college sweetheart marries someone else. Though this tale is as old as time, or to be more accurate, just a year, the trailer shows Kapoor in a new light that goes beyond the typical Bollywood action hero. He’s extremely alert of his actions and consequences, and delivers high on drama and emotions.
The film is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga (who also directed Arjun Reddy) and will release on June 21, 2019. Can’t wait to watch if Shahid will match up to the excellence of Vijay Deverakonda in the original? You’re not alone.
