DEAR DEIDRE: SOME years ago, my eldest son won the leaver’s prize at primary school and now his younger brother is desperate to win it, too.
I know this is a trivial matter but as his dad it plays on my mind. It is adding to my high stress levels. I am 43.
I’m stressed over my younger son trying so hard to win the same award as his older brother[/caption]
My eldest son is an all-rounder, very bright, always get top marks and is good at sports.
My younger is in his final year at primary school and is trying really hard to achieve the award, too.
It will ruin the summer holidays if he doesn’t.
DEIDRE SAYS: Who will have their holidays ruined by it?
Your younger son or you? How much of the pressure on him is coming from you?
You should show both your sons that you love and value them as individuals with different talents.
I’d say the most valuable gift you could give your son now is to learn to stay calm.
My e-leaflet Self-help For Stress explains how.
