CNN’s John King Calls Out Rep. Tlaib’s Anti-Semitic Remarks
During Monday afternoon's broadcast of Inside Politics, CNN host John King corrected Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) for her recent remarks that Palestinians provided a "safe haven" for Jews after the Holocaust.
King noted that Palestinian leaders had sided with Hitler during World War II.
In a podcast for Yahoo News released on Saturday, Tlaib said, "there's always kind of a calming feeling," when she thinks about how her Palestinian ancestors provided a "safe haven" for Jews when the state of Israel was officially established in 1948.
Tlaib, "ignored the fact that Palestinian leaders at the time allied themselves with Hitler and that total war is how the Arab world reacted to the declaration of Israeli independence," King said before introducing a panel discussion on the controversy.
Congressional Republican leaders have condemned Tlaib over her remarks.
"There is no justification for the twisted and disgusting comments made by Rashida Tlaib just days after the annual Day of Holocaust Remembrance," House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (La.) said in a statement.
President Donald Trump additionally weighed in on Twitter Monday morning, calling her statement "horrible and highly insensitive."

House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (Wyo.) described Tlaib's remarks as "sickening" and called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D., Md.) to "finally take action against Representative Tlaib and other members of the Democratic caucus who are spreading vile anti-Semitism."
Hoyer responded Monday afternoon by suggesting Republicans apologize to Tlaib for taking her words "out of context."
