IT was an emotional time on the last ever episode of The Durrells as the family said their farewell to Corfu island.
We take you through the tears, the passion and the goodbyes which made up the series finale.
The episode starts with sunshine and sea as Louisa Durrell delights in the return of Larry and Margo.
To celebrate this, the family agree to put on a play, involving friends and loved ones in the process.
During the episode, Louisa resists the mounting pressures to take her family home to England as World War II breaks out, and the island of Corfu will soon become unsafe.
This is until Theo urges them to get the last boat home before the borders close.
He also helps Gerry set his beloved animals free, as the family prepare to go home.
During rehearsals of the play, the family learn that Basil has been murdered.
Meanwhile, Larry keeps disappearing and is seen meeting a mysterious man down by the bay, leading viewers to believe he is a spy.
One of the highlights of the episode was when Louisa goes to find Spiros on the beach and they share a passionate kiss – at last.
However, she leaves the beach heartbroken, as he tells her he can’t leave Greece and come with her to England.
A moment of light relief during this emotional episode came from Margo and her quest to lose her virginity – which she did in the end, to Zoltan, who returned to the island to find her.
But the end of the show had viewers in tears as the family had their last ever supper in the sea, before they headed back to England for good.
The last scene saw them eating their supper in the sea, as they so loved to do, however it didn’t show their journey back to England.
We know that they had to catch the last boat home before the borders closed.
The family returned to Bournemouth to pick up the life that they had left behind five years before.

Unfortunately we don’t have the answer to this question.
It is not documented in any of the family’s books, nor their kiss on the beach.
But we’d like to think they had a reunion of some sort.
In the last episode, we saw Larry taking orders from a mystery man on the bay, he then told the family that he would not be returning with them to England, but would remain in Corfu.
In real life Larry did this, and although it is not said whether he was a spy, during the war he left Greece for Egypt and became a press attaché (publicist) to the British embassy there.
In the TV show, Margo is set to return home with her family, however this wasn’t the case in real life.
Instead, she stayed in Corfu, sharing a peasant cottage with some local friends.
She met Royal Air Force pilot Jack Breeze later in 1939, who was stationed on the island.
He convinced her of the dangers of staying on Corfu and the couple travelled together to South Africa, marrying in 1940, and then lived in South Africa for the remainder of the war.
They moved to Bournemouth after the war and had two children, Gerry and Nicholas.
So it looks like Zoltan was a fictional character, brought in to spice up Margo’s life.
We know from the first series that Louisa went to Greece after pulling Gerry out of school, after he was caned by the headmaster.
In Corfu he was home-schooled and the real-life Gerry revealed that this continued once he and his family were back in Bournemouth.
But his love of animals didn’t fade, and he went on to open his own zoo and write many wildlife books.
The family’s time in Corfu also inspired his bestselling novel, My Family and Other Animals and The Durrells.
