Every year on Mother’s Day, we shower love and affection on mothers. For all, their mothers are the best. Yes, being born from the womb of a person is the biggest event in life. However, the journey after the birth is a challenge entire humanity faces as some of us grow and become criminals, bad fathers, mothers, bad husbands, bad wives, bad teacher, bad boy, outlaws, corrupt people, murders, drug addicts and unkind lot but rarely a bad son or a bad daughter.
For almost all mothers, their sons/daughters are the best and infallible like Vedas. This is a kind of return gift mothers shower on their kids, forgetting that their kids are as human as others and they might go wrong at some point of life, facing some crisis. There are mothers who do accept the mistakes of their children and put them on the correctional path. But most of our mothers do not reconcile with the fact that the kid from her womb has become a criminal, an outlaw or a subversive element in the society.
Having been in the newsroom for fourteen years, I have seen mothers defending their convicted children, blaming others for the crime their sons/daughters committed.
In this 1975 movie’s clip, mother of two sons –one criminal and other police—could differentiate between the good and the bad. She refused to buy his elder son’s argument on why did he choose the path of an outlaw and rather rejected him saying, why did you write “Mera Beta Chor hai “ on my forehead.
The epic movie’s mother character is what we need in all mothers. This way, we would be able to live better. The wisdom to accept that her kid has done something wrong and no other person has to be blamed for the act her son or daughter committed would be a great gift to the world as a mother’s participation in correctional measures would be a great help in putting things right.
