Security personnel donate blood to save lives in Bajura

Bajura, May 11

Due to lack of blood bank, security personnel of three security agencies — the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force — have been donating blood to save patients’ lives in Bajura.

Only a few days ago, one of the security personnel donated blood at the district hospital in Bajura to save the life of a new mother Thumara Kathayat, 42, of Pandusain in Budhinanda Municipality.

Thumara gave birth to a baby three days ago at her house. Kathayat’s relatives had rushed her to Pandusain health post following excessive bleeding and she was referred to the district hospital as treatment at the health post was not possible.

When Kathayat reached the district hospital, the doctors there said she needed blood immediately.

The relatives searched for blood everywhere, but to no avail.

Finally, they reached Martadi-based APF Aashrit Battalion.

Acting Chief at the hospital Dr Tikaram Rai said assistant head constable Chet Nath Yogi at the battalion had saved the woman’s life by donating his blood to her.

According to Thumara’s relative Pur Rawal, they could find the blood donor after contacting APF DSP Chet Singh Thapa at the battalion at the initiatives of the hospital.

“We tried for blood everywhere, but at last the security person saved Thurama’s life,” he said. Health workers said Thumara required blood as she was very weak.

This is not a new case in the district. Personnel from Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been saving peoples’ lives by donating blood in the district.

People have been facing problems due to lack of blood bank in Bajura.

Dr Rai said people were facing problems during treatment due to lack of blood bank. “Emergency delivery and surgery service had been affected due to lack of blood,” he added. Dr Rai said blood donors could not be found immediately and grouping would not match during emergency cases.

“People in the district also were not aware of blood donation,” he said.

There are two emergency blood transfusion centres at the District Public Health Office and at Tate Health Post.

The then District Development Committee, Bajura had donated Rs 15 lakh from the Parliament Development Fund to the District Red-Cross Society to establish a blood bank.

The blood bank, however, is yet to be established in the district.
