Two men have been charged for riot and petrol bomb offences in connection with the murder of Lyra Mckee who was shot dead while reporting on disturbances in Londonderry.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said today a man, aged 51, was also charged with arson of a hijacked vehicle.
Another man, aged 38, was charged with the arson and hijacking of a tipper truck.
PSNI said both are due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
Journalist Lyra, 29, was shot dead while reporting on clashes between police and New IRA dissidents on the Creggan estate in Derry on April 18.
Following the attack, the New IRA claimed responsibility for Ms McKee’s death during a night of orchestrated violence.
Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 18, had also been arrested in connection with the investigation but have been released without charge.
The PSNI said: ‘The charges relate to violent disorder in the Creggan area of Derry/Londonderry on Thursday 18th April as part of the investigation into the murder of Lyra McKee.’
On Thursday four men were arrested by detectives investigating her death.
Yesterday her sister Nichola Corner appealed for Lyra’s killers to come forward.
Nichola said: ‘She deserves justice and those people need to really think about handing themselves in.
‘They need to do the right thing.’
