Mother ‘hurled newborn baby down 75ft ravine then told cops she’d been kidnapped’
A mother hurled her seven week-old daughter down a 75-foot deep ravine then called police to say the infant had been abducted, it is claimed.
Krista Noelle Madden, 35, was charged with attempted first-degree murder Friday after allegedly dumping the youngster in a remote area of Asheville, North Caorlina.
She reportedly told cops she had been kidnapped along with the youngster on Thursday, only for the abductors to later free her and keep the infant.
The little girl was hurled down the embankment while still strapped into her car seat, but had fallen out of it by the time she was found.
She was discovered by husband and wife Scott and Cheryl Fowler after Cheryl heard her cry while collecting their mail.
Cheryl said: ‘She had some scratches.
‘On her forehead, on the back of her head. Below her knee and on her arm. She has some dirt around her eyes.
Speaking to WLOS, her husband added: ‘What kind of human being could do this?
‘I’m just happy she’s ok.
‘It could have turned out a lot differently.”
Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said the baby survived her ordeal relatively unscathed.
They pointed the finger at Madden after using cellphone triangulation to deduce that she had been in the area around the time the baby was dumped.
Sheriff Lowell Griffin said: ‘This was, simply, in my opinion, by the grace of a merciful God, that we had a female that goes to check her mailbox.’
Madden is being held in Henderson County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bond.
