Endgame didn’t have a traditional post-credits scene. But airing the trailer after the movie does make sense.
Avengers: Endgame doesn’t have a post-credits scene, but going into its third weekend in theaters, there will now be something to stick around for after the credits roll: the second and latest trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Endgame is three hours long and wraps up the 11-year story of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Thanos, and the quest for the Infinity Stone nicely — it’s a good movie that doesn’t need the promise of something extra. A credits scene teasing out the Avengers’ next adventure would take away from the big story moments that happened in the movie, while also raising the question of why a three-hour behemoth of a movie needs one more scene.
The problem with those moments is that they’re by and large game-changing developments that will alter the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And Spider-Man: Far From Home is part of that universe, and takes place after the events of Endgame.
That makes promoting the webslinger’s movie, and even describing what the movie is about, especially difficult if you don’t want to spoil anyone that hasn’t yet seen Endgame. (The movie has made more than $2 billion so far, so maybe everyone has seen it). Putting the Far From Home trailer at the end of Endgame makes sense, then, in that it assures Marvel that it’s only showing the spoiler-y tease to people who have already seen Endgame. But for anyone who doesn’t want to sit through Endgame’s credits again or at all, the trailer is also available (with a spoiler warning from star Tom Holland) online to watch at your own convenience.
