Jürgen Klopp’s Pre-Wolverhampton Injury Update: “It’s Only Pain”

It’s mostly good news for Liverpool’s ailing players ahead the final match against Wolves.

Another rough and tough season is coming to a close at Anfield on Sunday. Think of all the bumps and bruises and pulls and tears the players have been collecting. Liverpool have had their share of injury-riddled times throughout the season, players have missed lengthy periods while stuck in the treatment room, but there’s a moment going on with Jürgen Klopp’s team and every player, in all their various states of fitness, will be doing everything they can to be available for selection by the manager.

“The famous three words of this week in the dressing room, actually it may be four words, are: It’s only pain,” said Klopp.

“That’s how the players have went through the season. It’s always hard and always difficult.

“But it’s only pain. Let’s carry on. It’s very important for all the young lads to learn.”

Jordan Henderson played through what looked to be a great amount of pain through the second half against Barcelona. He was propped up by painkillers but the release of anguish in his body when the final whistle blew was obvious.

Andy Robertson was apparently playing through enough pain to render him unable to squeeze his hand into a fist. So, if you didn’t know that was a thing, that’s a thing.

Both players are expected to be available against Wolves on Sunday, as is Mohamed Salah, who I’d predict will get a spot on the bench under glass. Break only in case of emergency.

“Hendo said it’s only pain. Robbo said it’s only pain – but it’s real pain. Wow. Robbo could deal with the pain but the rest of his body couldn’t. They should be fine.

“Mo looked good around the celebrations (on Tuesday). The day before and yesterday he was running outside and he will be part of training today.”

Klopp also confirmed Roberto Firmino’s continued absence from Premier League action but the manager spoke confidently of the Brazilian being fit and ready for the Champions League final.

“Bobby is not for the weekend,” Klopp said. “But we have time and that should be enough.”

All of a sudden I love time.
